| About the National High Performance
Computing Center(NHPCC, Beijing) |
The Dawning-1000 Massively Parallel Processing System was
successfully developed in May, 1995. President Song Jian of
the Chinese Academy of Engineering (the State Councilor and
director of the Commission of Sciences) indicated that some
national high performance computing centers would be established
with the Dawning-1000 and a lot of work would be done for extending
the application of the Dawning-1000, then NHPCC (Beijing) was
founded. Seven years passed and nowadays NHPCC (Beijing) has
Dawning-1000A, Dawning 2000-I and Dawning-3000, one set for
each type, which has strong computing ability. Now Sun Ning-Hui
is the Director of NHPCC and Feng Sheng-Zhong is the Deputy
Director.
According
to incomplete statistics, in recent seven years NHPCC has supported
450 great projects including National Natural Science Fund,
Reconstruction Plan, State-funded research problem-solving
projects, ^863 ̄ High-Tech Projects and many important programs
for other committees and all of these has obtained many very
influential achievements. These applications cover numerous
realms such as physics, chemistry, mechanics, petroleum, nuclear
energy, meteorology, aeronautics, astronautics, hydraulics,
biomedicine, bio-informatics, etc. NHPCC (Beijing) has accumulated
much technology and has gained great reputation in study of
system maintenance, technology support, performance evaluation,
application and implementation, and parallel model and algorithm.
NHPCC (Beijing) has been undertaking ^863 ̄ projects and National
Natural Science Fund and at the other hand we cooperates with
many international famous software corporations to develop
the transplantation and testing for CAE software. Those Study
interests include fundamental study of parallel computing,
development of high performance parallel software and algorithm,
development of high performance parallel library, technology
service for high performance computing, parallelization of
application software, and high performance application integration.
The high performance parallel system is a key high-tech in
the world, which is very close to the development of national
economy and enhancement of overall national power. The success
of the Dawning server series founded a high substantial basis
to develop high performance computing, but the lag of parallel
software and parallel algorithm has become a main bottleneck
to high performance parallel system.
NHPCC (Beijing) will make a great effort to find a way to
convert research results into productivity and try our best
to satisfy the requirement for the important large-scale computing
in the national economy and national defense construction.
Based on Dawning supercomputers, software development and application
integration will be utilized to strengthen the study of algorithm
design and methodology. At the same time research and development
work will be combined with service into one system. We will
take advantage of our new research results to do more contributions
to the application of high performance computer for our country.
